About me

I offer a warm, genuine and respectful relationship, a place where you will be listened to very carefully and accepted without judgement. I would describe myself as an Integrative Counsellor, which means that I am able to work using different approaches, depending on the individual needs and experiences of my client. Counselling can help you relate to your own experience and your experience of others in new and helpful ways. I am able to work in depth with longstanding issues and/or help you through a current situation.

I am a Registered Member of BACP and I adhere to their code of ethics. This provides a framework for safe, ethical and respectful practice.

I am comfortable using different counselling models. However I have come to understand that it is the relationship between counsellor and client, which helps create change.

I am committed to working with individuals from within their own context, which will be different to my own.

I have a Cerificate in 'Essential Supervision Skills' approved by the BPS. I offer a warm, encouraging supervision relationship. Supervision is there to develop skills and confidence. To ensure good safe practice and to 'contain' work related anxiety.

I have worked as a counsellor in private practice for 25 years.

Alongside my private work, I have worked with children and young people with Special Learning Needs, in schools and in the community. I am very interested in creating empathic relationships with people whose experience is 'different.'

I have worked for a number of years as a volunteer counsellor at Huddersfield WomenCentre. This involves working with a very diverse group of women, on issues relating mostly to abuse and trauma.

I am on the Leeds Beckett Network of Approved Counsellors for trainees.
